The Rossoblù face the Hungarians at 7:15 pm for the third time in ten days. Both teams are coming off Sunday losses. Jake Smith still out. The return to Székesfehérvár brings back memories of the 2005 Continental Cup with the Milano Vipers.

Milan, October 26, 2026 – Milano Hockey Club play their third game in five days on Tuesday, October 27, at 7:15 pm, taking to the ice at the MET Aréna in Székesfehérvár to face Hydro Fehérvár AV19 in Round 16 of the win2day ICE Hockey League.

Doug Shedden’s side arrive in Hungary after a 5-4 defeat at Olimpija Ljubljana, a hard-fought game in which the Rossoblù, trailing 4-1 in the second period, came close to completing a comeback. David Lindquist was the standout with a brace, while Blake McLaughlin and Nick Caamano scored Milano’s other two goals.

Fehérvár are also coming off a loss, suffered on Sunday in front of their home crowd against Val Pusteria, who won 3-1. The Hungarians, who had won 3-2 in Ljubljana on Friday, currently sit eleventh in the standings with 16 points from 15 games. Milano are tenth with 20 points, also after 15 games played.

THIRD MEETING OF THE SEASON

Tuesday’s game will already be the third meeting of the season between Milano and Fehérvár, just ten days after the back-to-back series at the Fiera Ice Arena in Rho on the weekend of October 17-18, which ended with one win apiece.

In the first game, the Hungarians won 4-3 in overtime thanks to the decisive goal from Anthon Cheek, after Milano had tied the game through Grant with just 18 seconds left in regulation, six-on-four.

Twenty-four hours later came the Rossoblù’s response: a convincing 3-0 win, with goals from Madaschi, Caamano and Saracino, that gave Milano Hockey Club the first home win in its ICE Hockey League history. It was a game in which Shedden’s team combined offensive efficiency with defensive solidity, with Edoardo Berti posting a shutout in only his second appearance of the season.

The upcoming game is therefore something of a rubber match between two teams that now know each other very well. Milano will look to snap a three-game losing streak, while Fehérvár will want to bounce back straight away from Sunday’s home slip-up.

SZÉKESFEHÉRVÁR, A SPECIAL PLACE IN MILAN’S HOCKEY HISTORY

The trip to Hungary recalls a significant chapter in Milan’s hockey history. In January 2005, in Székesfehérvár, the Milano Vipers played in the Continental Cup Super Final, backed by around 500 Rossoblù fans who had travelled from Italy to support the team.

It was the season of the NHL lockout, which had brought many stars of North America’s top league to European ice. The Vipers, too, could count on players with NHL experience such as Rob DiMaio, Niklas Sundström and Craig Adams. Alongside the Rossoblù and hosts Alba Volán, the final round featured Slovak side Zvolen, who went on to win the tournament, and Dynamo Moscow, whose lineup included stars of the calibre of Pavel Datsyuk, Maxim Afinogenov and Andrei Markov.

It was an event of great international prestige, still remembered by Milan’s fans for the quality of the competition and the remarkable turnout of Rossoblù supporters. More than twenty years later, a Milan team’s return to Székesfehérvár forms an evocative link between past and present.

TEAM NEWS

Milano will once again be without Jake Smith, who continues a precautionary rest period following the injury he suffered on Friday against Klagenfurt. Medical tests have produced reassuring results.

In Ljubljana, Edoardo Berti started in goal for the Rossoblù, with young Jacopo Tomasello, called up to the first team, serving as backup.
