Milano Hockey Club announces the signing of Canadian forward Greg McKegg, who brings 251 NHL appearances to the roster.
Born on June 17, 1992 in St. Thomas, Ontario, McKegg is a 183 cm, 88 kg centre/winger who shoots left, selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 3rd round (62nd overall) of the 2010 NHL Draft.
A product of the Ontario junior system, McKegg spent three and a half seasons with the Erie Otters, becoming team captain, before moving to the London Knights, with whom he played a leading role in winning the 2012 OHL championship. He completed the full four-year junior cycle averaging a point per game.
Over 12 professional seasons in North America, McKegg consistently performed at a high level between the NHL and AHL. He has worn the jerseys of seven NHL franchises — Toronto Maple Leafs (debut in 2014), Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Pittsburgh Penguins, Carolina Hurricanes, New York Rangers and Boston Bruins — for a total of 251 appearances and 41 points, plus their respective AHL affiliates (497 appearances, 264 points), building a solid reputation as a reliable two-way player, a strong faceoff man and a sharp competitor in puck battles.
Hockey runs in the McKegg family's blood: his great-uncle is Lou Fontinato, the feared New York Rangers and Montreal Canadiens defenceman who was among the NHL's most respected enforcers in the 1950s and 60s.
In the summer of 2024, McKegg signed with BK Mladá Boleslav in the Czech Extraliga, but an injury forced him to step away. After a brief stint in the KHL with the Shanghai Dragons, he returned home to prepare for a new challenge on European ice. He will wear number 14 for Milano.
